My practice & therapeutic approach

Lorin Shapiro is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Beverly Hills, CA. She helps couples with relationship and fertility issues, and works with individuals on personal development, sex addiction, sexual diversity, and trauma.

I'm a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and SEP with a private practice in Los Olivos, California and a teletherapy practice predominantly serving the Los Angeles area.  My specializations include helping couples with relationship issues, working with individuals and creative people on personal development, sex addiction, sexual diversity and trauma.

I received a Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University and a Master of Arts from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.  My post-masters training included a three-year internship at The Maple Counseling Center in Beverly Hills, where I worked with individuals and couples, led interpersonal process groups for women and served as school therapist for the American Film Institute.

My clinical experience includes working as a clinician at the Institute For Sexual Health, where I received advanced training in the Sex Addiction-Induced Trauma Model.  I was also a member of the clinical team at Relationships Inc., where I worked intensively with couples. I am a certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and a certified specialist in Problematic Sexual Behavior (S-PSB). I have received a certificate of training in Sexual Attitude Re-Assessment and Re-Structuring (SAR) and Gottman Level 1. I spent two years serving as the Clinical Supervisor and Coordinator for the couples therapy program at The Maple Counseling Center, where I taught and supervised interns for couples therapy. I also run Somatic Experiencing workshops for performers who struggle with fear and anxiety around auditioning and performing.

Therapeutic Approach

I approach my work with compassion, empathy, acceptance and a little bit of humor. Understanding yourself and your motivations is often the first step to change, and I provide a nonjudgmental space for you to explore the deepest parts of yourself.  I will meet you where you are and work with you to reach your goals for a healthier, more connected life.  While I work predominantly from psychodynamic and somatic orientations, I draw from many modalities including, but not limited to, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy and mindfulness.  I honor the uniqueness of my patients, and I tailor the treatment to meet your specific needs.
